Behind the Job: A Weatherproof Outdoor TV Install in Northport

Every outdoor TV job we take on starts with the same conversation: the homeowner has a great backyard — in this case, a wooded Northport patio with a stainless steel fire pit — and they want a TV out there without turning the yard into an eyesore of cables and a mount that won’t survive a Long Island winter.

That was exactly the brief on this one, so we’re pulling back the curtain a bit on how a job like this actually comes together.

It starts underground, not on the wall

Before anyone touched a TV, our crew trenched across the yard and ran PVC conduit to carry power and A/V cabling underground from the house out to where the TV would live. This is the step most people don’t think about when they picture an “outdoor TV installation,” but it’s the one that determines whether the finished result looks intentional or looks like an extension cord running across the grass.

Then comes the hardware that actually protects the TV

Once the conduit was in, we set a dedicated post and installed a fully weatherproof mount and enclosure — not a standard indoor mount, and not a “water-resistant” version of one. Outdoor TVs live outside year-round in this climate, through humidity, rain, and freezing temperatures, so the mounting hardware has to be rated for that from day one. Cutting a corner here is the single most common reason an outdoor TV install fails within a season.

The payoff: a view from the fire pit

With the conduit run and the mount set, the last step was hanging the TV, connecting everything through the buried cabling, and calibrating the picture. The finished setup now gives this homeowner a clean sightline to the TV from both the patio seating and the fire pit — no visible wiring, no exposed hardware, just a backyard that works for movie nights as well as it does for everything else it was already built for.
